The UCV Sojourn first came into Project Freelancer's hands in 2248, when the Mako-Class Frigate was being replaced by the newer Normandy-Class Frigate. The Mako line of ships had been very successful, however, so the UCNC passed several frames down to their subsidiaries, like the R.E.D. mercenaries, the B.LU. contractors, and several other high-profile military projects from the private sector: like Freelancer.

The most prominent features of Sojourn's retrofitting are it's engines, armor, electronics, and shielding. The Sojourn's engine's are 460% more powerful and efficient than other ships of its class, and supports thicker armor. It's main powerplant, Unobtainium based with a Fusion-Fission reactor, also allows the ship to support more powerful shields than most ships of its size.

Sojourn, which still flies under military designation, has unbridled access to almost the entire system, and since it is out of date, can pass through the system without attracting much attention to itself.

Sojourn's platform is highly upgradeable and adaptive: additional weapons can easily be added, and currently installed systems can be upgraded. Sojourn also has a unique feature: using its oversized unobtanium core, the UCV Sojourn can temporarily store the heat generated by normal engine and ship activities, a feature formally unheard of on ships of its size. However, running the system for over 4 hours at a normal activity level will risk destroying the core and cooking the crew alive.
