I went behind the mounted turret and held down the trigger, practically drawing a line from will and matt from the rest of the jackals, trying to move the beasts back.

The volley killed 4, and the rest of the beasts fell back into the forest. Now that there was space to land, Aaron landed on the shore and let everyone climb aboard. They then flew back to base.
